Best campervan driving routes from Malaga

Camper Travel Route

To make the most of your time when you rent a motorhome in Malaga, take a drive along some of the fantastic routes from the city. Below, you will find some of the best.

Malaga to Marbella, AP-7
Explore the coast by driving around 60km along the AP-7 from Malaga to Marbella. Although this is a relatively short journey that lasts around 45 minutes, depending on traffic, it is nonetheless a beautifully scene route. Drive with the windows down in your motorhome rental in Malaga to take in that sea air and enjoy the stunning sights. When you are at Marbella, you can make the most of the pristine, paradisic beaches there.

Sun and Wine Route, Malaga to Axarquia, A-7
Another driving route that takes little time but is genuinely inspirational is the Sun and Wine drive, which takes you from Malaga to Axarquia via the smooth and well-maintained A-7. It will only take 45 minutes to cover the distance, but there are plenty of spots to stop along the way – so you can make the trip last longer if necessary.

Malaga to Ronda, Via A-357 and A-367
A slightly longer route than those above is the Malaga to Ronda route that follows the A-357 and A-367. It is 100 km long and takes around 80 to 90 minutes, without considering the traffic. However, there are many great places to stop along the way where you can enjoy awe-inspiring views of the Spanish countryside with its rolling hills and imposing mountain ranges.

Best excursions and sites of interest in Malaga

Caminito Del Rey
Caminito del Rey is one of the scariest walkways in the world. It was also once the most dangerous but has since become much safer. It stands 100 metres above sea level and is 7.7 km long. The access routes are 4.8 km of that distance, and 2.9 km covers one end of the perilously hanging walkway to the opposite side.

Sierra de Las Nieves National Park
Sierra de as Nieves National Park is found in the Sierra de las Nieves Range and overlooks the Iberian Peninsula. The park covers an area of 18,530 hectares and is home to an incredible 1,500 different plant species, including the tallest firs in the Iberian Peninsula. It is also home to around 150 different species of animals, including otters, wild cats, wild boar, roe deer and Spanish ibex.

FAQ
  • If you want to book a motorhome for hire in Malaga, you just need a standard EU country driver’s license as long as the maximum authorised mass of the camper van or motorhome is less than 3,500kg.

  • Like the rest of Spain, it is illegal to stop and sleep anywhere, whether on a public or private road (without permission from the owner), in a campervan or motorhome rental in Malaga. You need to carefully research and find motorhome campsites and parks that accept the size of your vehicle. Even if there are no signs that it is illegal, it is best to keep on the right and safe side of the law to avoid criminal charges and fines.

  • It depends on the size of the camper van, the rental company you are hiring from, and how long you are hiring the vehicle. However, a rough guide to the lowest price is around $39 daily. To ensure you get the best deal when you rent a motorhome in Malaga, use our price comparison tool.
