Hamburg to the North Sea Coast
This could be a good route if you want to head to the coast when you rent a campervan in Hamburg. It is roughly 120 km to the North Sea Coast, which starts on the A7 motorway out of Hamburg. You could stop at a few places to break it up, including Stade, which is about 50k away and one of the oldest towns in northern Germany. After that, you could stop at Cuxhaven, a coastal town at the mouth of the River Elbe. They have the Wadden Sea, known for its tidal flats and birdlife. After that, carry on to Büsum, about another 40km away. It is a small harbour town with lovely beaches and the perfect place to take a boat trip.
Hamburg to Mecklenburg Lake District
If there is anywhere perfect for a campervan in adventure, then Hamburg to Mecklenburg is the one. This route to the Lake District is about 150 km in length. Take the A24 motorway out of Hamburg, which will go through plenty of nice countryside. You could stop at a few places along the way, including Schwerin Castle, like something out of a fairytale. After that, head straight for the Lake District's biggest lake, Lake Müritz, which has plenty of hiking and cycling trails, boating, fishing, and birdwatching opportunities.
Hamburg to the Harz Mountains
If you want an even longer drive, then it's 200km to the Harz Mountains from Hamburg. This area is known for its lovely villages and forests and is perfect for a campervan adventure. Take the A7 motorway out of Hamburg, which passes through some incredible scenery. We recommend stopping at the Lüneburg Heath region along the way for a break and to take some pictures. Then, once you are in the Harz Mountains, stop at the town of Golsar and visit the palace. Afterwards, head towards the Brocken, the highest mountain in Germany.

Located about 30 kilometres south of Hamburg, the Kiekeberg Open-Air Museum looks back at rural life from the 17th to the 20th century. It's a good place to head when you rent a motorhome in Hamburg. You can visit farmhouses, windmills, and workshops, and staff dressed in traditional clothing will give talks to guests. Wildpark Schwarze Berge
Just 25km outside of Hamburg is Wildpark Schwarze Berge, set in the Harburg Hills. Here, you can look at some of Germany's native animals, including deer, wild boar, lynx, and wolves, all with plenty of room to walk around in large enclosures. You can walk along the well-maintained trails through forests and feed some animals. There is also a campsite just across the road from the park, which is perfect.
