Embarking on an RV trip to Berlin is an excellent way to discover the capital of Germany. There are several camper spots around Berlin where you can park your campervan and go into the city using public transport. Most camper spots are in the middle of nature, making it the perfect way to combine the excitement and fun of a city trip with the peace and quiet of camping in nature.

Berlin has a rich history and culture ready for visitors to explore. You can go for a walk along the Berlin Wall, check out the Cathedral, take a selfie with the Brandenburg Gate and visit the Holocaust Memorial. After a day of admiring Berlin’s architecture you can relax in one of the hundreds of restaurants from all around the world or go clubbing in one of the many techno clubs.

Are you planning a longer trip? Venture outside Berlin and go for a hike in the forests around the city. You can easily take your campervan to one of the nature parks or lakes and get to know the surroundings of Berlin. An RV offers you the necessary flexibility to customize your trip to your wishes. This way you can combine an exciting city trip and cultural events with trips in the surrounding nature.

Why is it worth booking a campervan in Berlin early?

Germany is valued among campervan fans for its impeccable road conditions. Thanks to the rich landscapes, beautiful nature parks, and idyllic countryside, it is one of the most popular European countries to explore with a motorhome. You can rent a campervan in many places around Germany, including Berlin. The period of time characterised by the highest demand for campervan hire in Berlin is between June and October. However, there is a possibility to get a head start and rent a campervan before other potential competitors. In order to do that, try booking a vehicle almost 4 months in advance. The average campervan hire in Berlin costs 112.23 euros per day, and the average travel time is 18 days. Remember: first come, first served!

If you have any doubts that prevent you from renting a campervan, do not worry. There is nothing simpler to do than contacting the CamperDays customer service department. Thanks to our transparent cancellation conditions and reservation changes that are free of charge, you will have full freedom and flexibility guaranteed. Our experts will also give you a few tips on the best campervan makes and rental companies.

Independence on the road is ensured by your own RV. With such a mobile home, you do not have to worry about following schedules or showing on time. You will also save money along the way as there is no need for you to book hotels, find affordable places to eat, or rent a car. A campervan is also a promise of more quality time spent outside, close to nature.

Questions? We have answers. The 5 most frequently asked questions

  • Most campervans are not allowed to enter the city due to the environmental zone. However, there are good connections with public transport from campervan spots around the city. It can also be useful to rent or bring a bicycle, so you can cycle in and out of the city and enjoy the surroundings.

  • Although there is no speed limit on many parts of the German autobahn, it is still recommended to pay attention to the permitted speed when there is a limit. The following rules apply to motorhomes:

Is the total weight less than 3500 kg? Then you are allowed 50 km/h in urban areas and 100 km/h outside city limits. Up to 130 km/h is recommended for highways.

Is the total weight more than 3500 kg? Then limit your speed to 50 km/h inside built-up areas, 80 km/h outside built-up areas and 100 km/h on highways.

  • To drive an RV in Germany you will need to have a valid driver’s license and be older than 18. Some rental companies may require further documentation so always check with the provider before booking. You can stay in Germany for up to 90 days without needing to apply for a visa.

  • The best period to visit Germany with a motorhome is between May and September. During these months you will enjoy sunny weather, pleasant temperatures and longer days. On top of that, you won't have to worry about snow.
Of course, it's also worth going on a campervan trip during less busy periods. That way you enjoy better prices for your camping spot and activities and it's also quieter on the road. Plus, during the winter months you can visit the wonderful Christmas markets that give German cities a unique charm.

  • In Germany, you may spend the night in parking lots specially designated for RVs and at campsites. In normal parking lots or along the road you may park for 24 hours unless there is a prohibition sign. Unless prohibited by local authorities you may spend the night on private property if you have the owner's permission.
