Best campervan routes around Frankfurt

Frankfurt to the Black Forest
The Black Forest is roughly 200km from Frankfurt and is a favoured route for many people looking for a camper van for hire in Frankfurt. You take the A5 out of Frankfurt, which takes you out of the city and into rural areas. You could call at Baden-Baden along the way, a spa town on the edge of the Black Forest. After this, take the B33 into the Black Forest. This area is massive and perfect for lovers of the outdoors, who will find plenty of hiking, biking, and photography opportunities.
Frankfurt to Heidelberg
If you only have your motorhome rental in Frankfurt for a day or two, then Heidelberg could be a perfect destination, as it's only 90km away. The route here takes the mountain road, which is very pretty to drive along. This is particularly good in Spring when everything starts to bloom. When you are in Heidelberg, visit the castle, which dates back to the 13th century, and head into the old town, which has a lovely old-world charm.
Frankfurt to the Rhine Valley
The Rhine Valley is one of the most picturesque regions of Germany. It's full of charming little towns and castles that have been around for hundreds of years. Take the A66 motorway out of Frankfurt, which quickly changes from urban to rural. There are plenty of places you could stop in the Rhine Valley, but we recommend Rüdesheim, one of the most famous wine towns in the region, full of narrow streets and wooden buildings where you can sample some wine. Bacharach and Koblenz are two other places you should check out. We could write a whole article just about where to visit in the Rhine Valley, it really is that great.
Best excursions and sites of interest around Frankfurt
Eberbach Abbey
Eberbach Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery in the Rheingau wine region. Its gothic architecture has made it popular for use in films. We recommend exploring the historic wine cellars and checking out the vineyards surrounding it. The Rheingau is also known for its excellent Riesling wines, so be sure to stop at a local winery for a tasting.
Bad Homburg
Bad Homburg is just 20km north of Frankfurt and is known for its thermal springs, which are said to have healing qualities. From here, you could visit the Bad Homburg Castle or spend the day hiking in the surrounding Taunus mountains.
Saalburg Roman Fort
Located just 30km outside Frankfurt, Saalburg Roman Fort is a reconstructed Roman fort part of the UNESCO-listed Limes Germanicus, the ancient Roman frontier. It is now a museum that showcases the area's history during the Roman Empire.
